Easter Long Weekend Camping Trip: Lucky Bay (Kalbarri) with the Family

There’s something about the Easter long weekend that just screams get out of Perth and head north. This year, we’re packing up the car and heading to Lucky Bay near Kalbarri for a few days off-grid with the family—and I thought I’d share how we’re preparing, especially travelling with a 2-year-old in tow.

Planning Ahead (Especially with Fuel)

One thing we’ve been hearing a bit lately is that diesel can be a bit hit-and-miss up north, particularly over busy periods like Easter. We’re not going overboard or stockpiling fuel, but we are taking a couple of our 20L fuel bladders filled with diesel—just enough to give us peace of mind and a buffer if things get tight.

It’s not about being silly, just being prepared. The last thing you want is to be stressing about fuel when you’re meant to be relaxing.

Travelling with a 2-Year-Old

Camping with a toddler is a whole different game. You quickly realise that preparation is everything.

We’ve learned that having things easily accessible is key—especially snacks, books, wipes, and spare clothes. That’s where our cargo net organiser has been an absolute game changer. It keeps everything tidy, within reach, and stops the car from turning into chaos 30 minutes into the drive.

A few extra things we always keep in mind:

  • Pack more snacks than you think you need
  • Have a mix of activities ready to go
  • Keep a change of clothes handy (for everyone… not just the kids)
  • Don’t overpack toys—simple things like books go a long way

Easy Camping Meals (Vac Sealing Hack)

One of the best things we’ve started doing is vac sealing a couple of meals before we leave. It’s such a simple hack but makes a huge difference.

We’ll cook a few meals at home, vac seal them, and freeze them. Then at camp, it’s just a matter of reheating—minimal mess, minimal effort, and perfect after a long day exploring. It also cuts down massively on what you need to bring in terms of ingredients and cooking gear.

Our Setup for This Trip

We like to keep things comfortable but practical—especially with a young family.

  • Tent: Oztrail RV-5
These things are unreal. Being able to stand up inside the tent is a luxury you don’t appreciate until you’ve had it. Plenty of space for the stretchers, gear, and a bit of breathing room.
  • Sleeping: Camp stretchers
Gets you up off the ground and makes a big difference for a good night’s sleep.
  • Water: Niche Outdoors 100L Slim Water Bladder
Having reliable water storage is non-negotiable. The slim design makes it easy to pack, and 100L gives us plenty for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.
  • Shower Setup: All-in-One Camp Shower + 10L Bucket
Simple, effective, and makes a big difference—especially when camping with kids.
  • Shade: Our new “gazAIRbo” (Inflatable Gazebo Prototype)
This is the first proper Aussie test for this product and we’re seriously excited. Quick setup, solid shade, and if it performs how we think it will, it’s going to be a game changer.

A Few Extra Tips for Easter Camping

  • Get in early: Spots like Lucky Bay fill up quickly over Easter
  • Check conditions: Weather, road access, and park updates before you go
  • Bring more water than you think: Always better to have extra
  • Plan for downtime: Not every moment needs to be packed—especially with kids
  • Leave no trace: Keep these spots pristine for everyone

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, these trips are all about getting away, slowing down, and spending quality time together. The gear helps—but being prepared is what really makes the difference.

We’re looking forward to a few days of beach, exploring, and just switching off (as much as you can with a toddler!).

If you’re heading away this Easter long weekend, make sure you drive safely and take your time getting there.

See you out there.
