Our Story

Niche Outdoors was built on a simple mindset that James and Shaun have shared for years — every trip can be made a little better than the last.

Growing up in Perth, Western Australia, they were lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the most incredible outdoor playgrounds in the country. From camping trips across WA’s vast outback to 4WDing remote tracks and boating the state’s stunning coastline, the outdoors has always been a way of life. Between them, they’ve fished and dived almost the entire WA coastline, spent countless nights camping across the state, and even taken on unforgettable trailer boat adventures as far as Scott Reef.

On every trip, there was always the same conversation — what could we improve next time?
A smarter bit of gear. A simple gadget. A small change that made camp life easier, setups quicker, or allowed them to stay out longer and push a little further. That constant tinkering, refining, and improving became part of the fun and part of the adventure itself.

Along the way, they also fell in love with the outdoor adventurer community. Some of the best memories weren’t just made on the tracks or on the water, but around campfires, at remote outback pubs, and in those chance meet-ups with people who instantly felt like old mates because they shared the same love for the lifestyle.

That mindset — improving the experience, sharing stories, and building connections — is what ultimately led to the creation of Niche Outdoors. A business shaped by real adventures and designed for people who live for them.
